How it all began…

This is my first blog post for HealthBliss and I am so excited to document our journey. We are a family of three. All overweight by varying degrees. I have 80 pounds to lose. KJ, my fiance, has about 20 to lose and TJ, his daughter, has 50. We are determined to live healthy, avoid fake sweeteners, and have fun doing it!

About three months ago, KJ was “diagnosed” with food sensitivities. He was advised to avoid the following:

  • Dairy, both cow and goat. Thus no milk, no cheese, no butter, sour cream, or cottage cheese.
  • No eggs from chickens.
  • No almonds, blueberries, cranberries, sesame seeds or whey
  • No cane sugar.

This led to major changes in our eating and shopping habits.

  • We use sheeps milk cheese and we are trying some vegan cheeses.
  • We use rice milk, because we also avoid soy, but that’s another post topic.
  • We use egg replacer for baking and pancakes. It makes scrambled eggs a bit more challenging. I miss quiche.
  • We have a small amount of cashews and peanuts for snacks.
  • We use agave for our primary sweetener. It’s all natural, tasty and low-glycemic, therefore good. We randomly use honey, molasses and maple syrup.

It was easier for all of us to eat primarily within these guidelines, rather than trying to make 2 or 3 variations of each meal. It’s been three months, and we’ve done great. Other than a few Christmas treats, we are on track. As we look forward we will track our eating, our weight progress, and our successes and failures. I can’t wait. So follow along and feel free to comment, share, advise and learn. We will be having fun living a healthy life!
